The School Board

Each government school has its own School Board.  The Board formulates school policy within the framework established by the Department.  In our primary school the Board members consist of:

  • three elected parents, one of who is appointed School Board Chairperson
  • two elected teachers from the school staff
  • the school Principal
  • a community representative nominee (optional)

The board’s role is to assist in the management of the school by:

  • approving educational policies
  • approving financial expenditure
  • assessing the school’s needs in relation to the provision of buildings, equipment funds, and, where appropriate, making recommendations to the ACT Department of Education and Training
  • developing relations between the school and the community.
