Out of School Hours Care

Miles Franklin Out of School Hours Care (MFOSHC) aims to provide quality, affordable child care for all primary school age children (5–12 years of age) attending Miles Franklin in a safe, caring, happy, relaxed, friendly, warm and stimulating environment. Our Before and After School Care service offers care for children who attend Miles Franklin Primary School. The School Holiday Program is offered to all school age children during ACT Government school holiday periods.

Hours of Operation

MFOSHC operates during ACT Government school terms Monday to Friday, between the hours:

  • Before School Care: 7.30am – 9.00am
  • After School Care: 3:00pm – 6:00pm, or as determined by the Management Committee.

  • School Holiday Program: 8:00am – 6:00pm, or as determined by the Management Committee.

MFOSHC will be closed on designated ACT public holidays and for a shut down period over Christmas and the New Year. It is also closed on the first Monday of Term One when only Kindergarten and Preschool children are in the school.

All parents/carers will be notified of the closure dates through the MFOSHC notice board and centre newsletter.

All hours of operation will be posted on the MFOSHC door. No children are to be left unattended at MFOSHC outside of these hours.

Staff

MFOSHC is managed on a daily basis by a Director and a team consisting of:

  • Educational Leader / Assistant Director
  • 2 Coordinators (Juniors and Seniors Program)
  • 15+ child care workers (educators)

Management Committee

MFOSHC operates in accordance with the Education and Care Services National Regulations and National Standards and also with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) for Child Care Benefit (CCB).

MFOSHC is a not-for-profit organisation, overseen by Miles Franklin P&C Association and managed by a volunteer Parent Sub Committee (‘The Committee’).

An Annual General Meeting is held early in each school year, at which time office bearers and committee members are elected. Without a full committee the centre can not run.

Committee meetings are held in weeks 2, 7 of each term at the Miles Franklin Primary School. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend committee meetings. Notices of meetings are published in the school newsletter and on the Centre information board.

MFOSHC invites parents/carers to attend all meetings and minutes are available from the Centre.

Enrolment

A non-refundable enrolment fee for each child will be charged at the time of enrolment. The fee will be equal to two weeks full fees for the required periods of care. As we bill for care in advance this fee will be used for payment for the first 2 weeks of care.

Enrolment in the MFOSHC service is on a week by week basis. We are unable to offer alternate weeks of care. Sessions must be the same for both weeks of the billing period.

Enrolment Forms are available from the MFOSHC Centre during opening hours (or printable from the MFPS website dropbox). Enquiries can be made by contacting the Director on 6258 0977 or 0421 852 045.

Enrolments are subject to the availability of places. We run on a “first in first served” basis. Therefore enrolment forms are to be filled in and returned with payment ASAP.

Parents/carers will only be contacted if a place is not available for their child/ren.

We will be unable to hold your child’s place if you need to remove your child from MFOSHC for any extended period.  This means if you want to remove your child from MFOSHC for a long period of time such as for an extended holiday or for a period of maternity leave, we will be unable to hold your place unless you continue to pay the regular fees. This allows other families who need care to be able to access it through MFOSHC and for us to maintain a stable staff.

Fees

Fees are set by the Committee. Every effort is made to keep them at a minimum, fee increases may occur during the year to ensure quality of care and the continued financial viability of MFOSHC.

Permanentdays are ongoing weekly bookings (attend set days every week).

Casual days are one-off bookings and include sessions extra to your regular days. Casual users must notify the Director in advance of their requirements to use the Program. Use of the Program is subject to the availability of places for that day. Please note: you may cancel a casual booking by advising MFOSHC at least 24 hours before the booking that the place is no longer required. You will be charged for the place if you book and do not cancel, regardless of whether your child attends or not.Child Care Benefit is available to all families registered with Centrelink.
